We just took a first glance at Wombat's "State of the Phish 2018" report, which is a respected annual benchmark of how InfoSec leaders and their companies are doing in the phishing battle.
The study found a significant increase in the number of companies reporting impacts from phishing.
And what types of emails are bad actors using to phish employees?
Here are the top 3 categories:
- Consumer emails: things like bonus miles, you've been tagged on a social media platform, special deals
- Corporate emails: spoofing your own company, mailbox is full, invoice attached, etc.
- Commercial emails: these are not business specific emails, but general in nature about shipping documents and wire transfers
