I just purchased a Ring doorbell-camera combo for our front door.
Ring enables me to be typing a story on cybersecurity at SecureWorld headquarters, and talk to someone at my front door like I was in the kitchen at our house.
It all happens through the Ring app.
And now it looks like it will soon be backed and owned by Amazon.
Reuters was first to confirm that Amazon is buying Ring, reportedly for about $1 billion.
The acquisition will potentially help Amazon with it's new in your house package delivery service and in the fight against Google's Nest security options.
“Ring’s home security products and services have delighted customers since day one. We’re excited to work with this talented team and help them in their mission to keep homes safe and secure,” an Amazon spokesman said.
If the price turns out to be accurate, the smart home IoT revolution clearly has legs.
We're still waiting on results from Amazon's AI powered grocery store with no checkout.
And to think this all started with selling books online. That is pretty amazing.
