RoboBees: Flying Bots That Are Smaller Than Your Finger (Video)

During one of my rare breaks at RSA this week, I came across research and development going on at Harvard's Wyss Institute.

Researchers there have developed flying microbots, dubbed RoboBees that have potential applications in search and rescue, high- resolution weather tracking, climate and environmental monitoring and crop pollination.

In fact, researchers say the RoboBees were inspire by the biology of actual bees-and they are tinier than your finger. Check out the researcher's video. It seems likely spies around the world will like this invention, too.

Researchers say these flying Robobees can be infused with AI: "The masterminding of the RoboBee was motivated by the idea to develop autonomous micro-aerial vehicles capable of self-contained, self-directed flight and of achieving coordinated behavior in large groups."

Hopefully they won't have autonomous stingers.
