A major international effort that involved the FBI and several European cybersecurity agencies has dismantled a botnet that spread one of the longest running malware familes out there.

The malware is called Andromeda. Maybe you're familiar with it already.

Says a report from Europol: "This widely distributed malware created a network of infected computers called the Andromeda botnet. According to Microsoft, Andromeda’s main goal was to distribute other malware families.

Andromeda was associated with 80 malware families and, in the last six months, it was detected on or blocked an average of over 1 million machines every month."

This international effort is apparently linked to insights and information investigators gained when they took down the Avalanche network in 2016.
