If we made a list of people with top insights into the trends InfoSec teams face, Dr. Larry Ponemon would be right at the top.

Ponemon, Founder and President of the famed Ponemon Institute, does cybersecurity and IT research around the globe. And we’re excited that he kicks off SecureWorld Denver on November 2, 2017.

The way Larry Ponemon got into research is fascinating and here's a hint: it involved cryptography and the USSR, as he talks about in our interview

Ponemon on changing role of InfoSec Leaders

Whether you’re an analyst, a director or the CISO, the prominence of your role and its importance to the organization is growing. During the opening keynote of the Denver cybersecurity conference, Ponemon will share about "The Evolving Role of the CISOs and Their Importance to the Business."

"The most prominent CISOs, now, still have a good technical foundation but they really excel in other areas so they can converse with C-level executives. Many are communicating to the top, with a direct line if they need it, to the CEO. And often with responsibility to present to the board."

He says another trend his Ponemon Institute is finding is that individual lines of business are starting to hold more of their own risk, with the CISO in a coaching role.

And he'll also be talking about the increased pressure on cybersecurity leaders as they face major assurance and compliance issues, particularly in light of GDPR and a tough new law in the state of New York that may be an indication of where things are headed in other states.

His session is part of a timely and relevant 2-day agenda at the SecureWorld Denver cybersecurity conference.
