Can a postcard prove you're a person living in the United States and give you the green light to advertise on Facebook about a specific candidate for office?
Well, it sounds like that's Facebook's new plan to stop Russian and international interference with U.S. elections of federal candidates.
Having a U.S. address will apparently verify you have the right to advertise.
“If you run an ad mentioning a candidate, we are going to mail you a postcard and you will have to use that code to prove you are in the United States,” Katie Harbath, Facebook’s global director of policy programs, told Reuters.
Facebook says the program will start before the 2018 congressional mid-term elections.
