We're unsure if you can call this a trend.
However, it is worth noting.
Here at SecureWorld, we've definitely noticed something becoming more common in the United States: former employees are getting back at their boss or the business by launching DDoS attacks that can impact reputation and the bottom line.
The most recent case happened in Minnesota, where John Kelsey Gammell just pleaded guilty to months of DDoS attacks to get back at those who ticked him off, including the website of his former employer.
The Department of Justice says: "Gammell purchased subscriptions to multiple DDoS-for-hire companies, including VDoS, CStress, Inboot, Booter.xyz and IPStresser. He initiated attacks using these DDoS-for-hire companies against dozens of victims, including but not limited to Washburn Computer Group, the Minnesota State Courts, Dakota County Technical College, Minneapolis Community and Technical College, the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, and others."
He's not the only one doing something like this. Brian Krebs wrote a funny post about "How Not to DDoS Your Former Employer."
One of the things that tripped that man up? He also used a DDoS for hire service. That would be the same service he "liked" on his Facebook page.
Are you seeing repeated DDoS attacks against your company website? You might want to check with HR if anyone who was mad "left the building" about the time the attacks started.
