Someone (or something) re-routed internet traffic for major tech players through Russia this week, according to BGPmon, a web traffic monitoring service.
It happened twice in a single day, each time for about three minutes.
Was this some sort of a test?
The company's researchers are unsure but believe the redirection was intentional because it targeted prefixes and web-traffic to companies like Google, Apple, Facebook, Microsoft and some other high traffic destinations.
"Whatever caused the incident today, it’s another clear example of how easy it is to re-route traffic for 3rd parties, intentionally or by accident. It also is a good reminder for every major ISP to filter customers."
