IIoT: Protecting Industrial Control Systems in a Connected World at SecureWorld Houston

Written by SecureWorld News Team | Tue | Apr 24, 2018 | 12:12 PM Z

All across Texas, industrial control systems that used to operate in isolation are becoming increasingly connected to the web and the world.

Many are systems that play a part in you filling your tank at the gas station without a second thought, or heating your home during our chilly spring.

Hackers are trying to gain control of these systems, as we all know. However, they are so persistent in their attempts that US-CERT recently issued an advisory about what is happening in the energy sector:

“In multiple instances, the threat actors accessed workstations and servers on a corporate network that contained data output from control systems within energy generation facilities. The threat actors accessed files pertaining to ICS or supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems.”

This is why Paul Brager’s session at SecureWorld Houston on May 17th is so critical. He’s speaking on “Security Implications of the Expansion of IIoT/IoT in Industrial Control Environments.”

Brager is the Technical Product Security Leader, Digital Technology, at BHGE (Baker Hughes, a GE Company), and he has extensive cyber experience in the oil and gas, manufacturing, power utility, chemical, banking, and telecommunications sectors.

“That increasing connectivity is not only to enterprise networks; there also has been an expansion of IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things) capability within these control environments, and a subsequent movement of data into the cloud for further enrichment,” he says.

If you're in the greater Houston area, join this crucial conversation about what this means for a domain that already has significant security challenges while business increasingly demands near real-time or real-time access to these systems.

Paul Brager’s session is part of a powerful agenda for the 11th annual SecureWorld Houston on May 17th at Norris Convention Center.
