Think of all the electronic gifts members of your staff received at the end of 2017 - that are part of the IoT - and may be connected to your network here in 2018.

Add to these devices everything the business is implementing to take advantage of our increasingly connected world.

Put those things together and it explains why PwC found a record number of companies have IoT security policies at the start of the new year.

The results in the Global State of Information Security Study 2018, show more than two-thirds of companies are finally tackling IoT cybersecurity risks.

The interesting thing is that the information security practitioners responding to the survey cited several different areas of focus:

PwC says the findings in its Global State of Information Security Study 2018 reflect an increasingly serious effort, by more companies, around all types of cyber threats.

"To compete in the emerging digital world, companies must protect themselves from cyber risks, and become more resilient to cyber shocks – large-scale events with cascading disruptive consequences."

The study is based on 9,500 responses from those working in information security.
