Forget about drawing a royal flush and cashing out.
Online poker site Americas Cardroom keeps drawing a "royal DDoS attack" that latest hit hard for over a week.
The site cancelled tournaments, refunded player money, and tweeted about being under a DDoS attack beginning April 24th.
And those disruptions kept coming into this week, as you can see here:
And from a company blog post, it sounds like the attackers have been looking for a winning hand.
"In many instances, these attacks are motivated by financial gain where the attacker asks for a ransom for the attacks to stop. However, it’s our policy to never pay ransom regardless of the cost, as we will never give in to cyber terrorism."
Americas Cardroom also had a DDoS attack in early April.
These poker site cyber attacks are not just focused on Amercias Cardroom. Poker blogger Charles Rettmuller says competing site Winning Poker Network has been hit with dozens of DDoS attacks.
"Winning Poker Network CEO Phil Nagy went live on Twitch.tv in September 2017 after a series of 26 separate (DDoS) attacks over three days that put his network out of commission for a spell. Nagy said that he was told by an individual in his Twitch chat that the attacks were being carried out by a rival poker room."
Interesting theory, that rivals are attacking each other.
And there could be a long list of suspects—including those who have recently claimed that people are cheating at online poker—even using artificial intelligence and bots-to win hundreds of thousands of dollars.
