Remember the "old days" when being a leader in InfoSec meant securing the technology?
Those days are gone, and InfoSec leaders are struggling to make the transition, according to Dr. Chris Pierson, who will keynote the SecureWorld cybersecurity conference in Charlotte on February 8th.
We had a chance to speak with him ahead of time.
"Simply policing the organization, that's no longer our real job," Dr. Pierson says. "Partnerships, branding, trust, and goodwill—building these things across the business is now key. We are helping business do what it needs to do."
Dr. Pierson is a globally recognized cybersecurity expert and entrepreneur who holds several cybersecurity, anti-fraud, and technology patents. He's been a CISO, CPO, and general counsel. He also serves on the Department of Homeland Security’s Data Privacy & Integrity Advisory Committee and Cybersecurity Subcommittee.
And he says InfoSec leaders must relate their roles to the business like never before.
"Just like the hurricane maps, we need to make sure the business has enough information on what may or may not hit us, prepare ahead time, and have a response plan to a threat. We’re not talking tech, ones and zeroes, we're just talking about risks and how we are accountable to them," he says.
During his keynote in Charlotte he will discuss new controls, how to lead and govern alongside the Board, and how to enable business through better cybersecurity.
Dr. Pierson is part of a growing and updated conference agenda for February 8th. View attendee levels and register for a powerful day of learning and networking that is focused on the future of cybersecurity and leadership.
