Patients Will Now Be in Charge of their Records Through Apple Health Records Innovation

In the past, all the medical records concerning a patient were stored in various locations, which meant that an individual was not able to see all the health records in a single interface. Each patient was required to look into each of the health care providers and see the information differently, and the latter combined the data manually to get a comprehensive analysis of their health. This was a cumbersome, and time-consuming process as patients had to piece the information from different health care providers manually.

However, Apple is changing the current status and has already created a mobile application where patents can access health records from all the caregivers in a single platform. This is a user-friendly approach that will make it easy for patients to see all the information concerning their health status, which has already been pulled together from all the healthcare providers through electronic medical records. Consumers can easily access medical records through their iPhones.

In addition to being able to see different medical information from various medical care providers, a person will also be able to receive any notifications if the health records have been updated. Accessing all information through the mobile application will come in handy as individuals will be able to understand their overall health better, and the health of their family members, which will be useful in making future health decisions.

Some of the critical information that will be shown on the Apple’s Health Records include:

  • Patient’s allergies
  • Immunizations
  • Patient’s medications
  • Procedures and vitals
  • Lab results
  • Overall health conditions

Although the number of patients accessing the Apple’s health records has significantly increased due to a large number of medical institutions that have embraced the innovation, not all of them will get the records on their iPhone’s, as some of the hospitals are yet to agree on this partnership. However, the number is expected to increase as other healthcare facilities join the train. Below is a list of some of the medical facilities that have already enrolled in the new program:

  • Rush University Medical Center
  • John Hopkins Medicine
  • Cedars-Sinai
  • Penn Medicine
  • Ochsner Health System etc.

Advantages of Apple Health Records

Providing security for health records is the primary benefit of using this technology. Initially, all the health records were kept on various websites, which means that unauthorized individuals could access the health records, hence potentially jeopardizing patients’ privacy. The data is highly protected against malware and cybercriminals. Additionally, Apple must be able to make a decision between IDS vs. IPS, which is useful in protecting the health records against unwanted traffic.

The second benefit of using the Apple Health Records is ensuring that patients can now access their information in a single platform rather than through the traditional method where patients were required to log in to various websites, (if they could log in at all), to access information about their general health.

Lastly, Apple Health Records will ensure that patients have the control of their health. Doctors will be providing various information about the health of a person where they will be getting a notification about their status. By doing so, an individual will understand his/her health in a better way than before. It will also be easy to tie the health of an individual with his/her history and that of family members.
