Data breaches usually begin with a user error, and a high school in Montana was no exception after an error led to a data breach.

*An examination of computers at Hellgate High School determined it was "user error" that led to December's release of sensitive student information.*

*On Friday, Missoula County Public Schools attorney Elizabeth Kaleva released to the Missoulian a copy of LMG Security's report on Hellgate's December student data breach.*

*Following the information release, MCPS hired Missoula digital forensics company LMG Security to review the document containing sensitive information.*

*The afternoon of Dec. 4, an email with an attachment was sent - from Hellgate assistant principal Libby Oliver through Hellgate assistant principal and activities director Lynn Farmer's MCPS email account - to 32 email addresses.*
