Security Startup Idea? Check Out These Accelerators

I'm just back from SecureWorld Boston, which was a fantastic two days of InfoSec collaboration.

During networking breaks, the conversations are friendly and loud as peers form new relationships and reconnect with old friends.

At least two times in two days I just happened to walk past a conversation where someone was saying something along the lines of, "Yeah, that's something I'll tackle with my startup!"

While I'm pretty sure they were joking, maybe you are not. Perhaps you really have an idea that could help your peers secure their organizations—you just need funding.

If so, you probably know about VC funding, and there are several cyber contests. But have you considered an accelerator for your cybersecurity idea?

Many are backed in part by CISOs, most come with mentorships, and there are a variety of other perks which vary by accelerator. Things like office space or a video studio with a green screen.

If "now" seems to be the time for your "someday" cybersecurity idea, you may want to at least look at this route.

I've found a nice list of these types of cybersecurity accelerators at Vator.tv that gives outlines of more than a dozen options.

Best of luck on your startup idea. And if it takes off, maybe I'll see you in the Exhibit Hall at SecureWorld Boston or one of our other 14 regional cybersecurity conferences!
