The Charlotte IT security community continues to grow to meet the burgeoning demand from local organizations, and SecureWorld Expo has grown alongside.

Kicking off the day, the Charlotte Advisory Council gathered for an early morning breakfast and took a deep dive into the current state of and response to the now omnipresent foe, ransomware. Among those Charlotte entities represented by their senior IT security leadership were Bank of America, Ally Financial, Flour, Synder’s-Lance, Martin Marietta, Carolina Healthcare Systems, Charter, and Babcock & Wilcox.

Several of the early morning sessions drew capacity crowds, including topics such as cloud and outsourcing, NIST practical applications, and Four Levels of Thinking as a Geek Leader.

Once the Exhibitor Floor opened, attendees could connect with companies such as Cylance, DHG, IntraLinks, Internetwork Engineering, CloudPassage, SailPoint, and FireEye, among many others.

Dr. Larry Ponemon of Ponemon Institute was the featured keynote for a standing room only crowd, where he presented results from his most recent study, “The Cost and Consequences of IT Security Complexity.” It should be no surprise to this audience that the survey respondents overwhelmingly confirmed that their security challenges have gotten more complex the past two years, and 66% of them expect the issues to be even more so over the next two years. Leading the way in reasons for this: access to cloud-based applications and data, and mobile computing.

Attendees to the SecureWorld Charlotte conference come from a diverse cross-section of industries and disciplines, fully representing the dynamic business environment of the city.
