Truckers talk about a lot of things on the road, and not all of them are printable here.
Now they have a new topic to pass the time: cybersecurity.
The American Trucking Association (ATA), announced this week it is launching something called Fleet CyWatch.
"As the industry responsible for delivering America's food, fuel and other essentials, security is of paramount importance, particularly in an increasingly technologically connected world," says ATA President and CEO Chris Spear.
"Fleet CyWatch is the next logical step in our association's and our industry's commitment to working with law enforcement and national security agencies to keep our supply chain safe and secure."
It will allow ATA members to report cyber threats or attacks. The information would then be handed off to the FBI without necessarily naming the specific trucking company involved.
The question now is which CB code will truckers use when talking about cybersecurity? Here are a few options:
But after the incident, we're fairly certain they can use "10-99" like they never have before (mission complete, all units secured).
Joking aside, protecting our shipping infrastructure is critical, and it's nice to see the trucking industry driving down the road toward a more secure future.
